Honeymoon Daze

Part 2

The sun shined bright, casting its warm glow over the numerous guests that wandered the park.

Miranda and Bonkers stood by a display of flowers , the arrangement inspired by ‘Alice In Wonderland’. A park “Princess” gave her a white rabbit to hold as Bonkers smiled with his camera.

“Perfect. Now smile.” Bonkers said but he noticed Miranda wasn’t too thrilled. “Aw come on Sweetheart, it’s for the fun.”

“Fine. But you have to get in here too.” Miranda pulled him to her side.

Another park patron took the picture of Bonkers, Miranda and Alice.

The newlyweds continued on there way, enjoying the warm sun. Bonkers smiled and was uplifted by all the beauty and joy of the park. Even Miranda started to get into the spirit as she posed with Princess Jasmine for a picture.

The smell of coffee and cupcakes wafted through the air, Miranda smiled then took Bonkers hand and the two ran towards a café near a maze.
Bonkers and Miranda could still hear all the lovely music that played and Miranda realized she was very happy. She looked across the small table at her new husband and knew everything would indeed be alright.

Bonkers noticed her happy smile and took her hands in his. “Are you happy Sweetheart?”

Miranda saw his beautiful blue eyes. “Very happy. You were right, this really is the happiest place in the world. I’m glad you suggested we come here for our honeymoon. It’s wonderful.” She put a hand to his furry cheek a moment.

“Any place is wonderful with you Sweetheart.” Bonkers said sweetly as they stared lovingly at one another. They leaned close to each other.

“May I take your order?”

Bonkers and Miranda jumped when they saw a waiter in a nicely adorned uniform standing there.

They sat up straight in their chairs and ordered two coffees and two French pastries. Bonkers smiled at the waiter. “And a bowl of strawberries.” he added. Miranda looked at him. “I like strawberries.”

Miranda laughed, it felt good to laugh. It felt wonderful being here, being in a place of happiness and joy with the one she loved.

Their orders came and the two sipped on their coffees and ate their pastries. As Miranda sipped on her coffee, she saw Bonkers looking across the table at her, he wiggled his nose at her, his smile hidden by the coffee cup. She smiled and realized she was really in love. Bonkers began munching on his strawberries and Miranda looked at him.

“Hey, about me.” she said crossing her arms with a half smile. “Aren’t you going to share.”

Bonkers looked at her, a boyish grin spreading across his face. “Not unless  you share with me.” his grin reminiscent of the Cheshire cat.

Miranda smiled as she got the idea and leaned forward in her chair. The two shared a loving kiss not caring that the other patrons were staring at them.

With their stomachs and hearts happy, Miranda and Bonkers decided to take a trip through the maze. It was great fun. Dozens of people trying to find each other. Bonkers and were pretty good at keeping track of each other but ever so often they got separated and had to venture the maze to find one another. The warm afternoon sun was pleasant on her shoulders as Miranda turned a corner and spotted Bonkers in the distance. He waved at her and she ran after him. They played hide and seek with each other. Miranda saw stood behind a hedge and saw a few people walk by, then she saw Bonkers walk by looking for her. She smiled and reached out and tugged him into her hiding place. Bonkers was surprised but was happy to see her.

“You caught me.” he said to her.
“Of course I did.” she said smiling at him then she kissed him, and Bonkers was a happy prisoner.

Bonkers and Miranda walked along main street when they noticed park security was heavy and a cold chill seemed to blow through the air.
Bonkers and Miranda looked at each other. “I wonder what happened.”

The two walked up to one of the lead security officers. Bonkers saw police officers making their way through the crowds.

“Hi, what happened?” Miranda asked the man who didn’t seem happy at all.

“The large crystal that was set atop the castle has been stolen.” The man looked at her and Bonkers came to stand beside her. “And who are you?”

“We’re police officers.” said Miranda.

“From California.” added Bonkers. “Maybe we can help.”

“Sorry, state police only. But enjoy your vacation.” The man went back to taking reports.

But as Miranda and Bonkers looked around, seeing people starting to argue and bicker with each other, they knew not only would there not be much of a vacation left, but that they had to help figure out who stole the valuable crystal.

Bonkers and Miranda made their way through the crowds which was now like trying to make their way through a war zone. People were arguing, shouting, pushing each other. Bonkers felt terrible.

Bonkers jumped and screeched like a cat as someone stepped on his tail. He held his sore tail. Miranda looked at him sympathetically. “This getting crazy.” Miranda saw park actors beginning to argue with each other.

But Bonkers noticed something as they made their way to the exit. Only humans seemed to be arguing and fighting, not Toons. The handful of Toons that walked the park were calm and confused at everything that was going on. Bonkers held Miranda close and they rushed out and back to their hotel as quickly as possible.

Bonkers and Miranda stumbled into their hotel room. Miranda flopped onto the bed while Bonkers fell into a chair.

“What was that all about?!” Miranda said sitting up again. “It was like everyone totally forgot they were in the happiest place in the world.”

“No kidding.” Bonkers answered, then he changed his shirt. Then he went into the bathroom.

“It’s strange Bonkers. Security said a large crystal was stolen and then suddenly everyone starts trying to kill each other.” Miranda saw her new sundress all dirty. “I just don’t understand why.” She flopped back on the bed again.

“I think I have an idea.” said Bonkers as he came out of the bathroom coming his wet hair. “ Maybe has to do with the crystal.” Bonkers finished drying his hair with a towel. “Did you notice how only humans were the only ones acting differently, not Toons.”

Miranda looked at him as she still lay there. “What do you mean.”

“I mean what ever is happening only affects humans not Toons.” Bonkers said the towel sitting on his shoulders.

Miranda sat up now. “Bonkers, I’m human and I don’t I’ve changed.”

Bonkers smiled at her then sat beside her. “That’s true. It’s like you’re immune or something.”

Then he saw her face sadden. “Oh Bonkers. I believe this is happening.” She looked at him. “On our honeymoon. And even if we offered to help in the case, they won’t let us.”

Bonkers knew sadness was normal. He started to message her shoulders. After a while Miranda started to smile again. “Don’t worry, we’ll figure something out---my Mirandella.”

Miranda looked at him oddly. Bonkers smiled sheepishly. “No? Ok, I’ll just go back to Sweetheart.”

Miranda smiled. “Sounds good to me.” Then kissed. And there was a knock at the door. Miranda sighed. It seemed to be a pattern.

Bonkers smiled putting a hand to her cheek then stood up to answer the door.

“Mr. Bobcat. A parcel for you.”

“Oh, Thanks.”

He closed the door a confused look on his face. “That’s strange to get mail while we’re here.”

“Who is it from?” Miranda asked.

Bonkers opened the box and saw old fashioned scroll inside. His eyes widened at the sparkling gold seal for on that seal was none other than a Mickey symbol. “It’s from him.”

“Him?” Miranda stood up and looked over his shoulder. “Is that a-Mickey Symbol?”

“Miranda. Do you know who sent this?” Miranda could see the shock on Bonkers face. “Mickey Mouse himself.”

“Okay.”

“You don’t understand Miranda. Mickey Mouse is the most famous, most honorable, most respected Toon in the entire world. If I’m receiving a letter from him, it must be extremely important.”

“Well, open it and find out what it says.” she encouraged him.

Bonkers broke the seal pulled the scroll open.

    Bonkers,

As you once helped me before, I feel it is best to call on you once again. As you may have realized by now the crystal that was atop the castle is no ordinary crystal. It is a magical crystal infused with the power of happiness and joy that was placed there to keep people peaceful as they travel though the parks. How do I know? I know because I placed it there myself many years ago. You must help get the crystal back, or the Heart of Disney World will be lost. I would do it myself, but I am currently on another mission. You will find everything place to start your mission. The safety of Disney Worlds Heart now counts on you. Be strong and full of heart.

                                                                                Sincerely,
                                                                                              M M

Bonkers was speechless. Miranda knelt down next him on the floor.

“I can’t believe it. He wants me, to help get the Heart of Disney World back.”

Miranda hugged him. “Yes, and you’ll do a great job, don’t worry. If he chose you, it means he believes in you.” She said sweetly then kissed him gently.

Miranda stood up and went into the bathroom. “Let me change clothes then we’ll get right on this mission.”

Bonkers sat there on the floor his ears drooping past his shoulders. He hoped he could do what was asked of him.

***

A young woman with short dark hair walked in a long trench coat through a long dark alley along the side streets of the park. The park was due to close for another two hours. There still needed to a customary parade that everyone usually enjoyed. She walked into a building that was away from the main area. She looked around, no one had seen. She walked through a long hall and came to a large door. She felt a little sad seeing all the Mickey Symbols around and remembering how everyone had changed outside. It was amazing the park was still open and running. She knocked on the door and it opened for her. That always made her uneasy. She this whole situation was making her uneasy. But it had to be.  He wanted it that way.

She stood there still as a statue. She saw the large desk and the large leather chair whose back was facing her.

“Well?” The cool even voice sent a chill down her spine. “I trust no one saw you coming here.” The girl stood silent. “Well!”

“No Sir. No one saw me.” the young woman piped.

“Good. For generations no one ever thought of me, a second thought at best. But now with the crystal gone, let’s see how happy his world can be.”

She heard a laugh that made he cringe. She started to realize helping to steal the crystal was a bad idea.

She saw his shadow on the wall, as he held the crystal in his bare hands. She knew Disney World was doomed, and she was a part of it. She turned her head away sadly, as the shining moon cast a glow on her dark hair.

To Be Continued…
